Oh my god, thank you girl who was talking about Lia, and all the other ones. You litterally stole the words out of my mouth. I think that if no one paid attention to it, then certain people would actually not get the self gratification that they are seeking by attacking people on reality show message boards. I also see a direct corrilation between Lia and Steven's personalities. You know that they were the kids in high school (I know plenty, trust me) who were made fun of, and know dress up in fancy cloths, and mask their insecurities with big words and pompous ways. Now can we get back to actually talking about a reality show, and have some light hearted fun?

WOW... you newbies are way wacked out!!! Ok Lia, I was going to stay off this board and just hang out at our new board, but I can't believe whats going on here.

First of... Lia has a right to say whatever the hell she would like to... as do you guys. But I think what you all are missing here is that we, the original posters, have had a great time since episode 1, we get along, sometimes agreeing to disagree, but also are respectful of one anothers opinions and feelings. We have had some great conversations about the show and many, many OFF TOPIC ones that were fine too. It seems after these last two espisodes we got some new posters, which isn't a bad thing. The way you have jumped on the "veteran" posters, is just plain wrong. We have been here long before the majority of you (you may have read but not posted) and I don't understand why you think its OK to bully people on here. Lia is opinionated, yes, but aren't all of you, thats why you're here??!!

So i just have to say, lighten the heck up! But you know, thats ok, we have made a new happy place for ourselves where we can feel free to continue the fun times that made the board what it was.

Lia, you keep on doing what you need to do girl!! See ya over at the other board!!

Thanks Lia!! Thats really important too since the foo dust is on vacation.... I just am totally bummed cause we were all getting a little sad that the end was near for the season but now it seems especially awful that it has to end on a sour note due to some who can't just deal with all of our unique ways of having fun!!!

Keep that spellbook handy, we may need a little something special for these last few weeks.

Oh by the way, i asked on the other board, but do you know how to contact LeeAnne and Harold? Would love to let them know how great i think they've been... and you do seem to have the info on such things... I guess you never got to do that article?

As far as Harold and Lee Anne, I'm not too sure. Hey DCJewBear... does "Bear" refer to what I think it refers to? LOL

Why, yes, it does! My then hubby (Ron, since departed from fatal heart attack in 95) and myself started hearing about these "bear" bars back in , oh, 1993 and we decided to go one night. We walked in and it was like, "Oh my God, babe. Did you know we were part of a new movement?"

It was agreat discovery because when Ron passed these great big hearted guys got me through the next few years. I thank God every night that I met these guys and, yes, I am a bear.

Was that off topic enough?

anyone take note of any of the knives used by the top chef contestants? i noticed Tiffani uses shuns (eh..), not sure at all about harold but his main knife seems to be a 10.5 inch gyuto of some sort, and i caught a glimpse of stephen's hiromoto gyuto (i thiiink it was, with an octagon shaped wooden handle).

harold's a lefty, and i'm pretty curious as to what his main steel is

This is a bb for a TV show, not a long lost family reunion. All are welcome, even opinionated, obnoxious, holier than thou, been here before you, will be here after, jaggoffs.

This show has been on for less than 3 months. 3 MONTHS. All those "we've been here since episode one so we're better than you" comments are not appreciated. If I were empress, you would be banished. Seriously.

Unfortunately, I am not empress, and I'm sick of hearing about your dorky club. So, until there is an "ignore" feature I will suffer your existence. And it will be that. Suffering. I promise.

I also think Harold is very underrated. A lot of people keep saying how he has no personality and is boring, but I think he is just one of those people who don't have to be in your face all the time saying "Look, I'm so wonderful and great." He lets his work do the talking for him. It seems that he really is a good guy and cares about the people around him. I want to meet him sooooo bad. If he's ever in Texas I will be there!

Does anyone know if Harold is married? And was there anything going on with him and Lee Ann? Sometimes they were a little touchy feely. I don't know, maybe cuz I'm obsessed with him I see things that aren't really there.

I don't think he's is gay but he and Stephen always seemed to be in a corner somewhere. lol I think he is so cute when he wears his glasses.
Legolass
I posted her e-mail addy on the other site in the Shout Out section. Also, some additional info. regarding Lee Anne.
CathyErdal
I don't think Harold is gay at all. He spent time with Stephen just to talk and that is it (in my mind). Harold has his head screwed on straight. He's the diplomat about the things that go wrong, and I praise him for that. He tries his best to reel people in (Stephen)when the challenges are above them, and if it didn't work, it's no fault of his. He tried.

Forget the glasses and the tummy ache. He knows his strengths. Food food food.

Regarding the Reunion special:

Has anyone else noticed that the chefs appear to be seated *at least through Leanne's position, as that's all we know of for CERTAIN at this point* in order of their being kicked off the show?

Please forgive me if this topic's already been covered but I'm terribly curious if anyone else has made this connection. *IF* this is indeed indicative of the outcome, it would appear that Tiffani takes second place with DAVE being the winner!

Again, this is just a theory but...what does everyone else think?

Btw, I got this idea from watching the little clip on the bravotv.com main page...Note that Dave has a glass of wine- perhaps celebratory?

Hmm....what are your thoughts on this, guys and gals?

I'm a vet too and while I agree with your first sentence which I've quoted I have to take issue with the latter. Frankly I am here to talk about the show. Having to scroll through page after page of off topic posts is just tiresome, period. I am guilty of going off topic too but overall I try to reserve those posts for the other sites I visit. At the risk of sounding pompus, I will venture a guess that not all of the visitors to the boards are as appreciative of the "fun" posts as you are. As for the "new" posters I've enjoyed new perspectives and fresh opinions and hope they plan on coming back to visit here and haven't decided to go elsewhere for any reason. Someone else posted on one of these threads this and I have to say I think it bears repeating, it's a TV show and entertainment and this is a board to chat about it...that's it...not life or death, so if we could get back to that premise it will probably be much more pleasant for all.

Apparently you're in the minority, dcjewbear, because I've been warned that no one else is interested. So, rather than open up a whole new can of worms (the fuzzy, spring-fed ones that pop out at you to wild hilarity when you unscrew the lid off one of those hackneyed gag gift cans of peanuts), wasting more board space with off-topic flavored junk in the process, I'm just going to have to let this one go by the wayside.

i am one of the newer "vetern posters" i enjoy talking about the show. but as with most things, you can only rehash someones facial expressions so many times before it gets old and so i really liked some of the off topic converstations. i met a lot of wonderful people then started going through some personal crisis and these folks have really helped me get through. it only takes a minute to scroll past something you aren't interested in and there are some conversations that i don't care to join in (especially if it involves bashing someones personal appearance, manner of speaking, or facial tics.) those posts i generally try to ignore. i am sorry if there are some people that take offense to a group of people that have become a family of sorts. i think that the tone of the boards have changed and thats ok. its not my board to dictate how or why. that is why the other site was created..not to keep people out but to keep the atmosphere that used to be here. i encourage others opinions and usually i find them refreshing but i just think that some people (those for and those against certain chefs) have a tendency to go overboard in their defense or their hatred of someone else...(sometimes i am guilty of that myself with the lovely red) just try to remember folks that all these other posters are people with feelings just like the chefs themselves and its so easy to judge but it can hurt to be judged as well.

"Bear" is a term used for a group of gay men who are usually hairy men who like other hairy men. I met many wonderful bears in my magazine days in Vegas. Even worked with them during the Bear Hunt week. Yes, I am an honorary Bear. No, I am not hairy. lol

no problem! yes it typically refers to larger size with more hair.. usually facial hair. Personally I only use the term to identify a certain mind-set, which is of greater acceptance of diversity in appearance. It may seem to represent a more limited or specific preference (and for some it does represent a very specific preference), but indeed, it sprang from an opposition to the idea that "attractive" means young, fit, hairless, etc... WOW we went waaay off topic... sorry folks. But there are a good number of the bear community in the professional cooking world. Bears love to eat!! LOL

I love how people make assumptions about if someone is a "good person" just by what they see in one hour a week. At the risk of sounding like a big B, get a life and stop passing judgment on someone you do not know. It's exhausting trying to rebuke every little bad thread that happens on this board, so I wont even attempt it. I just wish everyone would jump off the bash Tiffani wagon.

I think that you will find most in the "bear community" to have a greater tolerance for diversity. I think that tolerance increases the lovability factor! Which is why I found myself so aggrevated with Stephen's comments in this show.. "I have no tolerance for mediocrity" WHATEVER!! Well look where that got him.

I also have friends in the bear community in LV and all over the world actually. The "bear world" is really quite small. We've all known and/or dated each other at some time it seems LOL

I am with you on this. If you watch some of the bonus video they put on this site, you can well see that the magic of editing has created a much different image of these people. Can't really blame the producer's they only have so much time to fill. I agree with a post I read where it was suggested that they have an unedited version on DVD that you can see what really went on.

I'm not really a joiner by nature but, yes, I've spent many a night with the bears at their various functions. It's interesting to me that you mention "A Dirty Shame" because I went to that film with the bears on movie night. They do movie night and get together for restaurant nights (believe me it is so true that we can eat) and other stuff we won't mention here. <EG>

Why are you surprized that we're here? I know a lot of men who started watching this show for Dave (techno bear) and Miguel (big lovable cub type). I was a HUGE Miguel fan (and let's be honest, still am) and now I'm pulling for Dave because he reminds me of a guy I know.

A lot of the guys are here lurking but it seems like I may be the only one posting. Come on guys! You came out of the closet twice so let's here ya here!

Oh, one last thing, there are nights where we meet at places that are a little more elegant and there is nothing like a bear in a suit. I'm telling ya babes, it's like sex on legs.

WHAT???? Surely you jest. Bashing Tiffani is such evil fun. Clearly, as a newbie, you do not yet understand the hilarious glee some of us take in trashin' and bashin' Tuffi and La Stephen in good, clean fun. Suggest you read down the Episode 9 board for more background on the sensitive/insensitive/creatively funny debate. We fun-pokers are unrepentant. You, however, may wish to chill out a bit.

i don't think is unheard of for someone to not like the bashing nor do i think she or he should have to "chill" just cause they don't like to make fun of someone. i have my favorite and i certainly have some not so favorites but i don't bash anyone nor do i think that making hateful, hurtful remarks is "clean fun". i skip those types of posts and suggest that others do the same if they don't like it. yes, sometimes the remarks are humorous but there have been many a time when i think a poster has crossed a line to intentionally hurt a chef or another poster and that is not funny to me.

off topic please and you don't have to answer if too personal. i have been curious being a lesbian,i am not familiar with the term "bear" does that refer to size or hair quantity or huggability?

no problem! yes it typically refers to larger size with more hair.. usually facial hair. LOL

I think this is a pretty good definition but since Andrew Sullivan (and don't think I'm bashing Andrew. I know him a little and he's a good guy) and the like started writing about us it's become a little less clear. There alway is that thing that we call the fashion bear but I won't go there now.

You've got to remember that the bears were really started by gay men who were getting a little older, a little thicker around the middle and were tired of shaving their chests and going to the gym.

Also in the 80's a man who was a little more, um, zaftig was thought (at times erroniously) to be healthy (i.e. HIV-). This is the more unpopular theory because to outsiders it seems that we were ashamed of our AIDS sticken brethren. That's not true. Many of the bears I met later (as bears) I originally knew from the various political groups surrounding the crisis like ACT UP.

Nor to me either. And, as you all WELL know, I do not consider hateful, hurtful remarks "good clean fun" either and do not appreciate you implying otherwise just to make your point. However, there is this grey area where comments are somewhat justified or just reality show blow-off (such as the Tiffani needs to get a reality check comment) and should just be tolerated or ignored.

Also as I've said before, on a lot of other boards, people do not edit themselves and make hateful, bigoted, discriminatory or poor taste comments all the time. Others immediately jump in with further trashings, including the trasher, and get more and more creative in their trashings and then degenerate into trashing each other. This doesn't happen on this board, but bear in mind that posters have all kinds of posting experience and "expressive needs" when they come on here. I just took the opportunity to express my displeasure with the ones who come on to the Top Chef boards and immediately start getting moralistic with everyone before becoming familiar with the flavor of this particular set of boards.

Lighten up, everybody. And for those of you who are in the sensitive crowd, better load up on antiacid for tonight's blizzard of Reunion Show blow-off.

Oh, I actually agree with you Tiffan. I don't hate Stephen because he's young and full of himself. He'll grow out of it eventually and become the person he aspires to be. With some luck and a little foot up the keester occasionally (LOL).

I really don't hate Tiffini either. How can you hate someone you really don't know? I do think she has been groomed to be Top Chef's Wendy Pepper with talent but she could be a wonderful person when not immersed in that tunnel vision that doing anything to win can put a person in.

The woman can cook, though, and if I didn't know that some of the things she did had been done earlier by others I would think she's a genius. As it is I think she's a talented cook with issues.

Has anyone seen the preview video of tonight's reunion show posted on bravo's website? I am a HUGE fan of Harold's and I hope he wins, but WHY is he wearing a sweater with flip flops? Everybody else looks pretty good (I don't know what Stephen is doing dressed like that). I would have liked to see Harold a little more polished but I still love him anyway!

ff1...it was not my intention to suggest that you are trying to hurt someone.but i don't know you at all and i don't know what you consider "in clean fun" and what you don't. in reading over the boards there are those that say hateful things that think they are being funny that really isn't. if you are not one of those then i apologize sincerely. (i think i recall a bunch of name calling recently but not necessarily by you). i am sorry if i offended you in any way. perhaps i am just overly sensitive right now in anticipation of what is to come for the lovely red tonight

I'm struck by your query "But how can you hate someone you don't even know"? and want to flesh out this point in particular, since it comes up repeatedly.

I pose this question to everyone: "How can you praise and defend someone you don't even know?"

Because, the rest of your post is doing exactly that. It is two sides of the very same coin. All of us don't know these chefs from beans, yet we have opinions on them and their skills, based SOLELY on what we saw on TV. So it seems to me to be hypocritical to blast others for criticizing somebody they don't even know and only saw on TV, and then proceed to praise somebody the poster don't even know either and only saw on TV.

Because we ALL only know them from TV, I think the negative comments are just as justfied as the positive ones. They do reflect people's reactions and analyses of what they saw on TV. I just ask that we keep it respectful. Maybe even funny.

And, for the ones who come in and ungraciously blow off a little negativism, let it roll off your shounders. (aka "chill out").

cause he's 50... and he can KICK!! LOL shoot I dunno... Harold strikes me as someone going through a sort of psycho/spiritual refinement... like the college student who's philosophy class made sense all of a sudden. I think going through a reality TV experience of any sort might prompt someone to assess their own values.
