Once again, our culture vulture pushes the artist to be better - when he told David, no, sister would NOT be reading the poem - but the author himself WOULD. "As a writer, and a poet NO ONE will be able to read your work like YOU can." ...While that is true, Jai... one of the hardest things on earth is to take the way you hear the timber and cadence in your head - and translate that through your own lips. ...It's ONE of the reasons I write poetry and why the form - line by line - is SO important. Every space has meaning. Every break in a sentance, line to line has a purpose. Every little punctuation is agonized over. Learning to translate that into audible enjoyment is sometimes a tortuous thing. ...
That's so true - it meant a lot more for him to read it himself, especially since it looked as if it wasn't easy for him. And thanks for transcribing the poem earlier, too. I really have to read things for them to sink in, I think, as opposed to hearing them - I appreciated it much more when I was able to read it for myself.

Hurrah for Thom's selection of sturdy furniture that can stand up to the twin's rough housing!
One of my favorite things was Thom pointing out to them how they could easily fix that chair with the wood armrests if one of them banged their tooth into it while wrestling and knocked a chip out of it - then said, with this look of disbelief on his face, "I love how you don't even flinch when I say that!"

the plant theft reminds me of a situation that happened to a friend... she lives in a condo complex, and found a just about dead ficus by the dumpster... she took it in (has a great green thumb) and nursed it back to health over a year's time (keeping it in the same pot that it was sent to its demise in, in the dumpster)
one day last spring, she decided to give Figgy (*yes, his name) a little sun and set him out on the balcony..
a few days later, she got a knock on the door and a neighbor barged right past her, heading to the balcony and said in heavily accented almost-English "I now Borrowback my plant" hilarious! She told them in no uncertain terms that Figgy was now hers, and to leave or she would call the police. The neighbor insisted that she needed to "borrowback" the plant, my friend again, politely refused, and to this day, that is what we call them, the Borrowbacks.

It seemed as if the Brothers Bravo weren't totally trusting of the process at first...showing a bit too much masculine bravado (pun intended) until they both realized that the Fab 5 was there to HELP them and not DATE them. Then they totally went with the transformation (great haircuts, by the way), which was a total success. Let's hope they stay with it!
YES, Mikeysday! EXACTLY! David was SO hesitant, I swear he almost stumbled over his opinion of the pink shirt and came right out with: 'I think this makes me look gay...' Carson SO got his hesitation. I LOVED his eye roll and "Let's try the blue, I wouldn't want you to get beat up at the bus stop!"
AS IF ANYONE COULD with the way these boys fight!
At least Brandon went with the pink woven shirt!
The difference between thier hesitation (to the dark cloud over David's face from the haircut being so tight) to the final instructions was like night and day.
I think these guys have a shot at going from the profound immaturity of the opening info to truly being gallant, intelligent young men. They always had the hearts for it... now they have the push with the skills. (And it doesn't hurt that the WHOLE WORLD now knows their foibles! - So people will be taking note of slips! Fear can be a great motivator.)

Crossroads -- By David Bravo ©2004
I find myself alone again; many thoughts plague my thick head
the future, the past, death. I cannot focus on the present.
My thoughts lie in other places and dimentions.
I am at a standstill - an internal stalemate.
I cannot find the will to push forward,
I am afraid of winning, a fear of success perhaps.
I am saturated with anger and regret.
Saturated with the resentment of others,
And saturated with the hatred of myself.
My future is unclear to me, I am very afraid.
A man coming of age, a boy trapped! What is right? What is happiness?
Is it wealth or prosperity? Seems to be in this world.
Easier not to face reality, easier not to fight,
liquid courage, chemically induced happiness.
Easier to forget, easier to suppress, there is no balance.
We want to be God-like, we want to fly, live forever.
Tower of Babel, built to reach the heavens.
Destroyed and punished for our efforts.
Nothing is perfect. Ovid's Iron age.
Where are the Heroes? Odysseus and Aeneis?
Where is the Messiah? Can we be saved?
Surrounded by Serpents we live in fear.
Surrounded by nothing we live a lie.

Dear De,
I'm concerned also. Some days, I hate to pick up the newspaper or turn on the local TV news because of all the senseless violence, irrational behavior, and drug/gang related crime against good people that I'm almost sure to find.
Like many of us, sometimes I have a tendency to procrastinate. Change can be difficult, especially if it involves effort. It's easy for me to say, "I can live with it," "it couldn't happen to me," or just trust that somehow, if I ignore a problem, it will either resolve itself or just mysteriously disappear.
Believe me! You are in a potentially life-threatening environment. Don't follow MY example, DO something about it, NOW.

I didn't like the pink on him much either but probably because he just looked so darn uncomfortable in the shirt--or rather the color. I think he could have described the looked more acurately than "fruity." Some guys can wear pink, others can't. For some, it makes them look too "feminine" not "fruity".

When you are around someone for a while or observe them for a long time, then you begin to absorb them...you pick up some of their ways. This is much like when we were discussing picking up the ways of some of the boys. Carson is absorbing some of the mellowness of Ted and Jai (I think Kyan is on the mellow side too) and Jai and Ted are feeding off of the energy of Carson and Thom (and Kyan walks that line). So yes, there is a noticeable increase in their comfort level with each other because in the process of absorbing from one another, they are creating a balance.

Family rarely "gets" a poet's work. Mine definately doesn't. (My sisters want me to write happy poetry about children... ME... a childless woman.) So it's more than possible they made him nervous. I really agreed with all of this except the part about Jai looking better all pumped up. He IS obviously working out, which is really good for his health and all, but I think I must be the only person in the world who prefers him as his usually skinny, cute self. It just suits his persona as a theatre type more. I guess I'm just tired of all men on TV looking like GQ models, and he is beginning to look more TV than theatre which is somewhat sad. *sigh* I have always preferred people with a more alternative look though, not the status quo. Of course, if he wants a boyfriend, it will be easier to attract one if he looks like everyone else. We don't exactly value originality in this country, even in the gay community.

In my previous post where I beat up on one of the twins for using the word "fruity" I forgot to mention that I really did like this episode. I have twin older brothers and although one passed away some years back, the Bravo twins acted just like my twin brothers used to. I could definitely see that famous "twin bond". I think my favorite part was when one of the twins (sorry guys, I don't know which is which just yet) hugged Thom in the kitchen. That is exactly how my brother Tom (the one that passed away) used to hug people. Most definitely a warm fuzzy moment for me. Just like Jai, I like twins! He does need to practice reading his writing out loud - but that's very hard. Our university has a program that brings writers to campus where they read and discuss their work, and I go as often as I can - in all fairness, even professionals don't always read their own work very well. It's a whole lot easier to listen to and appreciate the ones who are good readers, though. Caroline Chute, for example, was a terrible reader, to my great disappointment. (She wrote The Beans of Egypt, Maine, a GREAT book). Lee Smith is a fantastic reader, so go see her if you get a chance!

Any doubts? Remember what Brandon said when Thom tackled Kyan and began wrestling on the bed? "Look! Look at these guys! They KNOW what they're DOING!" And indeed they did! They grappled fluidly - Ky flipped Thom to his back, and Thom arched off the mattress instantly rolling Ky back. (I just wanted to watch and cheer! ) You have to imagine - with as physical as Ky and Thom were during the John Z. epi - and Thom's comments about all the guys being "bonded as brothers" -- as well as the fact that Thom grew up the youngest of three boys, Thom and Ky - and even the other guys - may play quite physically rather often. One thing you'll have to prepare for is Jai's 25 (June 22). When you watch men age from their early 20's to their 30's - easiest done with actors since so much of their lives are on film for us to see - is that when they move into their 30's, the shape of their face alters as do their bodies - and they tend to "fill out" more. Look at Don Johnson from the pre to during "Miami Vice" years as an excellent example.
Jai's moving toward 30, and even if he never gained an ounce, age changes all of us. He is also able to care more for his health. Gone are the days of the apartment where he'd open the front door and hit his bed. He can afford to eat right and exercise.
Besides - that beloved gorgeous man was already pretty GQ from the GET!

I loved the stainless steel GE appliances for the Kitchen. (Granted I would forever go WHIRLPOOL® - but this is Scout Producing for Bravo owned by NBC owned by GE... so they probably got a deal.)
Not sure if you know this or not, but Whirlpool makes the Kenmore products for Sears. Basically, one product comes off the line with "Whirpool" on it and the next with "Kenmore" and since Kenmore can be less expensive...something to think about if budget is a concern (and when is it not?).
OMG!!!
**De runs over and gives Thomiegirl a hug**
Yes!! I was the parts procurer for Sears for a few years - and so YES! I know the manufacturers! Are you a fellow (albeit I'm now a former) employee? I had a refrigerator make an unceremonious BLAM! on to me (years ago) from the loading lift and messed up my spine. They retired me out.
I STILL keep my little note book and friends make me go whith them when shopping for appliances so I can check the model numbers and tell them who made it, and if the stuff is from a decent manufacturer.
Sears is where I learned to love all things Whirlpool and hate all things GE! LOL!
How COOL that you know this!

I'm just gonna kill WireImage! It was there! If you go to http://www.wireimage.com and type in "Greg Calejo" You get just one picture of him in some group shot. He's the one - with what I would call a "valentine" shaped face.
The shot of him and Thom was listed as "Thom Filicia and Guest" but it isn't THERE anymore.
I'll see if "D." can scope it and get it up on str8girl's photo section for you.
There's a devistatingly gorgeous bunch of pics on Peir 1's site of our dear resplendent Thom alone, though!

I really agreed with all of this except the part about Jai looking better all pumped up. He IS obviously working out, which is really good for his health and all, but I think I must be the only person in the world who prefers him as his usually skinny, cute self.
This is not a gradual change though; he has made a conscious effort to buff up, just as Thom is obviously doing something because his legs are so much skinnier now *looking at new Advocate magazine* Ah well, as long as it makes him feel good about himself. I'm wondering what he is going to look like in "Rent" though. I can't imagine a bulked up drag queen *giggles*

Naw, not connected with either Sears or Whirlpool, work professionaly in automotive. Just proud of all things Michigan, where the Whirlpool 'white goods' part comes in.
If you have not been to Michigan, I encourage all to visit, everything from beautiful beaches to unspoiled virgin woods. Watching a storm roll over Lake Superior is humbling, harsh, and powerful. Seeing and playing warm, 10 + foot waves break over Lake Michigan, is memberable. Catching walleye in Lake Erie is exuberating, tiring, and really good eating! We also have the top rated state camping parks in the US. I have had the good fortune to travel the US and world, and MI has my heart.
Depoetic, I am feeling sad that a 'long lost' connection was not made. But new connections, that is the stuff of poetry.
Love.

Sorry, I got caught up in a passionate "MI" moment. I also have a little notebook, only mine deciphers vehicle VIN numbers so I know the body type, where and when it was made, engine type, assessories, etc. What an identification number can tell you when you know what to look for! When friends are shopping for used cars, I become VERY popular!

De: On the wire image site, there are also pics of Thom from the Costume Institute Gala (4/26/04). In one of the pictures of him "and guest" (female) he appears to have his hand on her breast. Too much champagne or is he shielding her from the camera because of a "wardrobe malfunction"? Darn it, I hate when that happens!

This episode should be titled "Pearls Before Swine." My husband and I were thoroughly disgusted by the Bravo twins and their Neanderthal behavior. They were disrespectful to all of the Fab 5, particularly to Carson.
As part of their training, they should have been forced to empty their own disgusting pee bottle. Why must we subject Carson or any other Fab Five member to this? These cavemen should have been forced to do the disgusting dirty work themselves.
And wrestling with Kyan? Please! They were very snotty to our beloved Ted and to Thom as well. In fact, the only person to whom they did not give major attitude was Jai! Big points to Jai for not taking it from these animals.
And the stoopid poem by the "poet" brother...please.
These two did not deserve the royal treatment afforded by the Fab Five. What a waste of their time and talent.
Shame on the Bravo twins!

Hey hey, come on now! Yes I do agree that they should have made them empty their own pee jar, but they probably are so used to it that it wouldn't have phased them. Seeing how clean and upscale their house could look could prevent them from reverting back to their former ways however.
I don't feel they were disrespectful toward the boys at all, I feel they were hesitant. Alot of straight guys are have been hesitant around them but you have to admit, they opened up to them quickly and pretty darn well.
As for David's (I believe it was David) poetry, how on earth could you be so cold as to call this work that came from his heart stupid? Or even "stoopid" for that matter? It is obvious that this had deep meaning for him AND his brother who was touched by it when it was read to him. How can you take something that means so much to someone and call it a name like that? What have you done, what have you made that is an original from you that you are passionate about? Would you like it if you laid it out there for all to see and people degraded it? David may have to work on the presentation of his poetry, but as long as it comes from his heart, it's as beautiful as the masters of long ago.

I do have a small monthly (but lifetime), long-term disability payment and was SUPPOSED to have lifetime medical for the back injury... but THAT's what I have to go to court in Austin over soon... the next appeal. (I refuse to do the telephone court thing.) The GOP run Texas Legislature is trying to cap long term disability... and the insurance company jumped the gun. --De

missthang: did you actually say "stoopid poem"?
"wrongful death, one family's grief, red scars...." If this doesn't mean something to you then perhaps you haven't had to face grief. I hope that's true....if so, you're a lucky person. I hope you live your whole life without knowing the pain of saying good-bye in a hospital room to someone you love. David, keep up the good work....your poem touched me.
