I LOVE THIS SHOW AND I LOVE THIS GUY! I am going to cosmetology school after spending 20 years in Corporate America and am completely inspired by Jonathon! He and I share the same philosophy about hair. Looking good on the outside makes you feel jazzed on the inside. It's the mind body hair connection!
KEEP IT UP JONATHON! You are right on target. And don't take any crap from Brandon - not that you would!

Is Jonathon Antin the guy "Rick" from the movie from the 80's The Last American Virgin? His name was Steve Antin or is this his brother? Can someone answer this for me? Thank you. BTW: Rent the movie and you will see what I mean.

Ok, this show had me from the first time I saw the commercial and I'm glad to say it wasn't disappointing. I'm totally behind Jonathan and what he's doing even though he's a little too not-calm for me. I was so rooting for him and the scene for the next show seems to indicate he made it - but the botox shots were SCARY! QE fan to the nine (thus the name) but I will definitely keep watching this show

I was so looking forward to this show and will continue to watch it because I am always intrigued by what happens in other salons. Jonathan had ridiculous expectations to have the salon open and running in 30 days! He should've just post-poned the In Style opening party and admit that he wouldn't be ready in time. And why even consider hiring Brandon? His quality of work doesn't seem worth the price of what you will have to endure from him. I guess we shall see!

Jonathan Antin has to be one of the most appalling paper thin individuals I have seen on TV in a long time. He has been blessed with good looks and a sharp wit and from the information on his bio a “in” into world of hair at a young age but that about it for him. Jonathan’s cocky, smug attitude erases any of his up front good qualities. This is a major accomplishment for him since he is able to one up his staff in this area who are almost as bad as him. Most of these individuals are very young and obviously inexperienced in what real life is and what it can be.
I feel truly sorry for these people who think that the world of “hair” is important at all. I know these shows are designed to show controversy but I am afraid that this will teach our children and society that this is the appropriate why we should act towards others. Its just plain wrong and has no place in our country.
I am sorry john but no one cares about you and your business. I hope that in your life you can actual foster a true relationship with someone that is not built on lie and deceit.

I just watched the show, and it was wonderful. I'm glad I taped it because I am going to have my husband watch it with me. I just wish that I lived in Southern CA, so I could have Jonathan cut my hair. I think this show is going to be great. I just wish that Jonathan had an e-mail we could write to.
One day I will make it to B.H. and have him cut my hair.....maybe he could actually do something with my too thick hair.
Keep up the great work Jonathan....we will be watching you achieve your dreams.

Enjoyed the first episode tremendously! Being a salon owner and having opened my business by renovating a rundown spot and being on a tight deadline, I could totally empathize with the situation he faced. I hope the show is a big success for you, Jonathan! You deserve it.

I watched the show, fully expecting to not like Jonathan at all, but I ended up feeling the exact opposite. He is NOT the stereotypical egomaniac male salon owner....he is a stylist with a dream of making it big. It takes a LOT of guts to do something like that.
The two things he should have done different: Give himself more time to get his salon build-out done, (although I understand that he wanted to get the place open ASAP so that he isn't paying rent on a dead space any longer than he has to): He should have never hired Brandon, even though he will be an interesting piece of the show as time goes on.
I'm looking forward to seeing how his opening day goes!

This is a great show that shows how business happens in one corner of the fashion world. This show hits the sweet spot for me because I am a 30 year-old entrepreneur who has started three different small businesses over the past eight years and am also very style-concious.
Jonathan appears to be a sincere guy who, in his own words, 'is just a small business owner trying to open a second location'. Great approach. Stick to it.

I'll try to be nice and will give it another chance but here are my comments from the first show. This guy Jonathan seems to be the epitomy of LA attitude. He definitely fits the stereotype. I don't understand if Bravo is trying to attract the Gay audience by airing before "Queer Eye". He appears very closeted to me. I certainly don't care to watch this guy oogling over women. I think Bravo needs to go back to marketing 101. He also mentioned that he has bad hair. I'll agree with him on that. In fact I'd bet that it is a bad toupe. He may be a great business man and a wonderful hairdresser but the attitude has already chased me off.

Line!...I definitely feel similar on Jonathans personality, you make some pretty good points, however, Ive been a hairstylist for the past 17 years of my life, have worked for Paul Mitchell, done several photo shoots, video work and worked with some of the best hairstylists in the business and ive owned 2 salons, so I wanna set the record straight with you.
You say that the world of "hair" is unimportant, here are some thoughts for you.
Half of the worlds issues come from individuals who have problems with self worth or some sort of self complex of one kind or another....more than half the population of this country is in therapy, on some sort of anti-depressant, or have some kind of issue that a doctor,( which im sure you believe to be of the utmost respectable profession),cannot seem to cure. We live in a country obsessed with looks, materialism and power. But the people you may consider to be less than desireable sit in my chair, day to day, in hopes of shattering the images people like you deem "unimportant". I may not be a blue collar worker and Im sure you probably think i couldnt fill your shoes but Im there to make a difference in their lives.
Who are you to say that my work is unimportant? Who are you to assume that I dont save lives in my profession..yes...i said PROFESSION! Who are you to know that some "undesireable" was about to end his/her life and decided to come and see me for some uplifting and I in turn saved that poor down and out soul???....
So until you wear my shoes for a day, you may not want to be so judgemental on whether or not "our business" is "unimportant"!!
YOU GO JONATHAN!!

I have been anticipating the premiere of Blow Out for quite some time now. I have to say that it surpassed my epectations. A show only (well not only) a hairstylist could love!!...Pure Genius! Jonathan left somewhat of a bitter taste in my mouth but I will say this...I completely feel for the guy....its not easy juggling what he had to juggle and manage to keep his sanity. He definitely needs to keep up with his therapy appts.!! I was hoping to see a more down to earth guy, but hey....its beverly hills and everyone is a little inflated there!! Props to the show and Im looking forward to many more!! Keep it REAL!!!

Look deeper than that - it's no just about the "world of hair", which IS an important thing...ask anyone who's been interviewed. This is about someone who knows what they want and have taken that dream to the next level to make it a reality. THIS is what we should be teaching our children. That nothing is going to come easy, whatever your dream is, but keep going after it anyway. Yeah Jonathan may seem cocky, I prefer to think of it as confidence. Like I said, I am surprised that I like him but his attitude is one of business, not maliciousness...and that I can understand.
His proteges are young, yes - but we all have to start somewhere now don't we...otherwise no one gets anywhere.
As for "lies and deceit", where the Hades did that come from?!

In response to one of the other posts about Jonathan being "paper thin"....
I honestly think that statement is BS. Granted, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I'd like to ask that this poster look at Jonathan's attitude from a business perspective. You have to have a "show 'em who's boss" attitude to succeed in the world... more particularly, the realm of beauty in Beverly Hills. I live in NY & have worked in retail as well as done modeling so I am very familiar with this sort of mantra. People will run you over if you do not stand firm. He has to be able to set the tone so that he will command respect.
Perhaps it just takes a certain kind of person to appreciate someone like this, but there it is. Take it or leave it. I wouldn't change a thing about what he is doing and how he is handling things. This is life. If people can't handle those who know how to get things done, then that's too bad. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.
Congrats to Jonathan and best of luck with the salon! And damn, I wish there was a way to contact him. I'd love to send him a picture and perhaps a proposal to be his bi-coastal mademoiselle

This Johnathan is a real jerk with a humongus ego on top of it all! Why did he think he could open a salon in 30 days with an unlicensed contractor (what will the authorities do?) He's very unprofessional too by hitting on a job applicant during an interview. Then he doesn't hire her but asks her out instead!! My impression is money and looks have gotten him where he is, not brains. The personality of always being "on" and ever-so hip is a real turn-off. This isn't reality. The show can only be scripted to make it interesting.

I wished Bravo would have picked any other stylist than Jonathick. His voice is annoying and so are his mannerisms. I can't believe he had a salon in West Hollywood but had to cut Kate The Ted Hamilton Dater Bosworth's hair in all that debris. He could have went to her house or hotel room.
He is very unprofessional with the builders and I had a big laugh when the guy hung up on him.
He's creepy like the animitronic robots at Disneyland. I've been watching reality TV for 12 years and he is molto fakeo.
The Pussycat Dolls looked worse after he worked his magic on them. He's no Warren Beatty in "Shampoo".
If the Village People had a hair dresser, he'd be perfect.

While I wasn't all that impressed with Jonathan Antin as a person, I respect his success in the beauty industry. It's HARD work, and it requires more than just basic technical skill with a shear. I have been in the position of counseling battered wives, people suffering from suicidal depression and oftentimes, I am the only person this individual trusts enough to open up to. I've been told by mothers of young girls that I was the first person to help their daughter feel good about herself just because I made their hair look great.
I think "LINE" owes every stylist who visits this board an apology because, I tell you what...I work my tail off every day, and it's good, honest, creative work that takes brains and real artistic talent. ANYONE who's line of work helps people feel a little happier, a little more attractive, and a little bit more self-confident is doing a worthwhile thing.

Ego knows no bounds. Talent is a gift from God. It should not be used as a weapon to threaten or humiliate. It's okay, Brandon, I almost got into a fist fight with him, too. I particularly liked his lighting man hanging up on him. That hang up was one of many I am certain. This guy is the most abusive haircutter on the planet. I thought as he grew up he'd mellow. He's only gotten worse. Good luck and God bless, Jonathan.

Yeah, I think I'll enjoy this show rather like a macabre viewing of a car accident. Johnny is one arrogant son of a gun. Hitting on a prospective employee? Not hiring someone because he is tall? The only one with his feet planted relatively firmly is the New Yorker boy. How much do these fellas make per head?
In regards to the importance of "Doing good hair," (I'm picturing the chick with sequined glasses from Steel Magnolias right now)... as a nurse I take umbrance with anyone thinking a good hair cut can actually change or save lives. Get off your high horses. I enjoy a good day at the spa as much as anyone, but it ain't bringing people back from the brink.
I hope John keeps up with the interruptions of himself to point out hot chicks. If he does, we'll have a great drinking game on our hands. "Whoa, look at her!" Raise your glasses, he's spotted another one! We'll be drunk as skunks by the hour's end.

I finally watched the episode last night. I think I'll be a regular viewer because it's kind of like watching a car crash -- you can't turn away no matter how revolting it gets. Jonathan attitude, etc didn't get me until he didn't hire the girl Nicole. "You work for my friend, yadda, yadda, yadda" translated to: "I'm not hiring you because I want to get you into the sack and it would cause too many complications if I have to actually look at you every day". The ogling women on the street, while overdone, was not unusual. I've driven in BH and those people are absolutely nuts...the tension about not getting the appropriate equipment...I've been recently involved in a major corporate move and it's nuts and stressful and I'd be making the same calls. What lost me was the damn duplicity about not hiring the girl....what a dog

He STARTED with an unlicensed contractor who was a friend of his for 20 years but had to fire him...which he did with great tact, no ego involved. He then hired a licensed contractor. And Nicole, the one he didn't hire but asked out, is someone he already knew from a friend's salon. I think he went about it the right way - if she doesn't have the skills then he shouldn't hire her otherwise he would have to let her go just like he had to let his friend contractor go. And it's obvious that she was just as attracted to him as he was to her so there is nothing wrong with them going out - they make a cute couple. I know you're entitled to your opinion, as we all are, but the boy has money, looks, AND brains; because he wields power wisely.
(Yes I know this is the first show so depending on how future shows go, I may change that statement)

Yes he's full of himself - Yes he thinks he's the best - Yes he knows he's good looking. But, he struggled to get where he is today, and if nothing else he should have a chip on his shoulders, like I said earlier, your employee's can make or brake you, so you have to be tough and want the win in the end. Although Im sure it wasnt Jonathans first choice to do Kate Bosworths hair amidst all the debris and contractors, but I will tell you this....Upon opening my 2nd salon I decided to do all the finish out myself...and in a little corner of my salon I had the bare essentials. A chair, a mirror, and my tools. I worked on the salon in between clients and at any other spare moment I could find. But these "clients" whom i like to consider a part of my family.. Chita!..it would seem that you and line have something in common...you believe that your professions have greater value than any other in our country..or so your words come across. Actually you sound like this bitter old nurse I had the distinct pleasure of encountering when my father was in the hospital dying. She too had the same cold and blase' approach as you seem to have in your post. Not all of us have the fortune of walking the floors of a hospital waiting or seeking out opportunities for you to use all of what you have in your nursing studies just so that you can feel important and make your tuitions well spent. There are actually those of us out there who enjoy making people feel better about themselves from the inside..out. "High Horse"...I would think not...just reality!..Its not about enjoying a day at the day spa as Im sure that you as a nurse gets to endulge regularly. Its about making ones self-worth much higher. Dont you feel bad when you look bad??..That kind of feeling echoes well into your day, week , month...lets face it..your life! If you cant say that you have those kind of feelings.....perhaps you should leave the life saving to us!...Go back to your tree.....CHITA!

I did a little research and found out that Steve Antin is Jonathan's brother. And their sister, Robin, as we learned from the show, founded the Pussycat Dolls. Steve Antin also played the jock Troy in the movie "Goonies" and he also co-wrote the movie "Chasing Papi." Interestingly enough both of these movies are currently playing on HBO (if you subscribe to DIRECTV)...the same week as the premiere of Blow Out...Coincidence?...Maybe. Steve has written alot of screenplays, preformed stunt work, and appeared in quite a few movies. It seems as if Jonathan comes from a very talented family. Success certainly does run among the Antin children. I would be interested to know if he has any other talented siblings. I hope this helps.
By the way, I absolutely LOVE the show.

Let me just say this- I do respect your opinion, but I do have to say that your opinion of the hairdressing profession is very one-sided. Have you ever attempted to do hair?? I'll tell you one thing right now this is a very interesting business to be involved in and it takes talent to make it. Just because you don't like Jonathon Antin that doesn't mean all hairdressers are like him. You should really think about things before you say them so you don't sound just as transparent and cocky as you deemed Jonathan.
