I loved the cut Jason did on the waitress they had the night before...The one that kinda looked like a young Demi Moore....Anyway I am dying to find a still shot photo of that haircut so I can get it myself....It was such an amazing cut...It may be impossible to get a pic though : (

Hey guys!
I used to own a salon, but I quit to stay home with my baby five years ago. I LOVE the show, but I just cringe half the time. Jonathon wants his salon to be so professional- but he can be just the opposite!! I know Brandon is very loud and can be obnoxious, but you NEVER repremand an employee in front of ANYONE, whether it is other employees or especially clients. I couldn't believe my eyes when he did that. YIKES!! He treats Kim like dirt, and she should just leave and go elsewhere. How is she supposed to know how to talk to the employees at his other salon?? He should deal with all that, not her, or else don't complain.
I really do love the show, but I could go on and on. Oh, the drama that happens at salons!!I don't miss working, but I do miss the people sometimes. I do hair still on my friends and family. Looking forward to getting to know you guys!!

I would like to see photos of some of the haircuts we've seen on the show. I've seen some gorgeous styles and want to print them out to show my stylist! Or, are styles like music, and the stylists wouldn't want people to be able to share them?
jones
Does anyone know the address and phone number or website of the salon so that i can make an appointment?

Ceramic ones are the best. There are some straghtening irons that go from cool to hot and back in order to protect your hair. You should be able to find a good quality straightening iron at a place like Sally Beauty Supply, that sells to the public. Buy the thinner irons, because those allow you to get the closest to your scalp and will allow u to have a naturally straight hair look. Don't forget to use a professional heat styling product and/or straightening blam. Rusk just came out with a new line of hair straightening products designed specifically for straightening iron users. You might want to try them out.

When straightening, take thin sections. Work quickly and flip either out for a little kick or work the hair slightly under for a more naturally straight look. You can also wear it stick straight, but I find this look is unflattering on people that do not have near perfect model looks.

If you have thin hair, you want to be careful about the amount of product you use. Too much product will render your hair: FLAT and LIFELESS or GREASY.

Watched for the first time Tuesday, June 22. Loved the way Jason cut the waitress's hair.
How could I find a photo of that? Where in NYC does Jason work since I live in NJ? Any idea how much he charges for a haircut?
ohiogirl
Hello! I saw the 3rd episode last night and loved the show. more importantly the stylists are amazing! The beautiful waitress that had her long hair cut about shoulder length had the most amazing hair cut. Are you able to post pictures of these haircuts online? I would love to get a haircut just like that and I don't live in California!
badluckchick
Jason did an amazing job but I guess that's why he's the "second chair" of the shop. While I love Jonathan and the way he is conducting his business overall, I was feeling sorry for Kimberly. I mean from what you see on tv, it's not like she's slacking off, she's doing her best under the circumstances she's in. Maybe it's some sort of "tough love" thing he's trying to pull with her.

HI, I really enjoy watching the show! I absolutely loved the haircut that Jason gave the waitress in last night's episode. I want it! The thing is, I live in the Midwest in a "smaller" town, (smaller than Chicago, but bigger than Peoria. lol) There are some good salons here, but of course nothing like Jonathan's! I would love to get that cut, but I want it done well and in a way that the stylist can really teach me how to maintain it (it looks pretty easy). Is there anyway I could get maybe some 360 pictures and a description of the cut I could take to a stylist? If anyone can help that would be great! Thanks! I look forward to chatting more about the show!

You know, After watching last night's episode, I too think that Jonathan should be a bit more professional himself. I understand that he has a reputation to keep up and put all of his money into this new salon and badly wants it to work but scolding an employee in front of a customer is not good for the business. I worked in a salon 12 years ago doing nails and shampooing customers as well as assisting the owner who was the head stylist there and all he did was yell at me and embarrass & humiliate me in front of his customers and I would go home in tears so one day I just packed up all of my stuff and said see ya! I wasn't going to put up with that kind of abuse anymore. My point is that I can understand what Kimberly must be going through. She is a lovely girl and I'm almost positive that any other salon would be honored to have her cutting hair for them. Although Brandon can be loud and all, He does do very good work and I'd LOVE to have him do my hair. I've got my fingers crossed for the both of them.

I just started to watch the show. I am a 30 year salon owner and operator from NJ. I have 25 employees and let me say the show is so on target. The problem with this business that Jonaton is taking care of is the lack of professionalism. That is my greatest challenge in my shop.

Hi, I have been watching the show since it started and I really want to thank Johnathan for showing everyone how hard the salon industry really is. For so long we have been refered to as Oh she's a hairdresser. Like it was some nothing job that we got because we could not do anything more important. But it is important and it is hard. Where would these people be if it wasn't for their hairstylist. Well they would be walking around looking pretty horrible. Maybe with this new show on we will actually get the respect we deserve. Thank you Johnathan!

Hi all! I was wondering if anyone could recommend a great salon/stylist in NJ? I have long, wavy, layered hair, and I can't even count how many haircut disasters I've lived through! The show has motivated me to find a place to get a GREAT cut! Anyone have any suggestions??? Thanks!
Sharon
To Johnathan

Come on. 20 years in the biz and you treat your staff like they are dirt. I also own a salon I worked my way up the ranks from shampoo girl to salon owner. You must have heard the expression that you get more with surgar than vinigar! Your staff is what makes or breaks you. Sitting in your back room back stabbing is just about as childish as you can get. Have a staff meeting and air all the difference there. Not while your stylist is with a customer. And the fact that your stylist dished to his customer what was going on. Oh Please !!! Maybe you should sit and what the show to see what you are not seeing.
LunaDeLuna3
Ricky where in NJ are you? I'm a nailtech, I live in Edison, but work for a salon in Somerset County. I love networking with other salon owners, techs, and stylists in the area. Good to meet you and much success with your salon!

Hey, if you find the picture of the waitress, I would like to know about it too. I thought it was way cool.

That's not too far from my job! Thanks so much! Do you know if there is a waiting list for him? There probably is now with the success of the show.

Hello everyone new to the boards..great show so far I am really enjoying reading all the professional advice and insight given here and I was hoping for good hair advice fromall you professional hairstylist here. I am a 34 year old african american woman who wears hair extensions..I like the long look so my extentsions are about 18 inches. I have been wearing my hair like this for years. My natural hair is about to my neck not very long. I have never had my hair professionally done I mean wash, cut ect. After seeing the beautiful work done by the stylist on the show..i want a new look. My skin tone is almond alittle darker maybe and i would like some hair color and a great face shaping cut. What color works best for black women? Does a cut really make a diffence in hair growth and add volume? How do you go about chooosing a slyist and finding one that is right for you? Do you all think Brandons days are numbered.
GlamGirl66
Can someone tell me if they've used or is currently using one of Jonathan's hair products from his Dirt line? Please let me know how they work and the price range for these products. I went to his website for his West Hollywood Salon but they said that the Jonathan store was temporarily unavailable.

Instead of emailing me for the photos, you can find the photos at these urls:

I found out that as long as I don't sell them, it should be okay to share these images. Hope I've helped. Sorry about the resolution, it was the best I could do with a digital camera, I don't have Tivo.

Click the photo section on the home page. You'll find a few pics of the waitress from the last episode.

I'm shopping for a flat iron, but I have no idea on what type I should buy or what I should look for. Can anyone help me on suggesting which type to get????? Please!!!

I heard CHI is good but let me know somthing!!!!

The chi iron is the best! Not the turbo, get the regular chi. I love mine so much. be sure you have some product on your hair before you use it, it gets really hot.

Hey, I don't have time to read all the posts here, but I skimmed through all three pages and I can't find out how much the cost would be to have Bradon cut hair would be. I can't find the salons number either. I asked this in a Blowout LJ community, but they just said to call and ask. One girl said that Lamar does a wash, cut, and straighten for $40. I'm going back to Southern California this summer, and I've always wanted to have one day where I just spend more money than I should on styling or something since that's not something I would typically do. But I don't want it to cost too much either. Does anyone know how much it is? If you could let me know I'd be so thankful!

go to www.jonathansalon.com to get a phone number. The cut and color will start from $150 to $300 bucks depends on how much coloring u need. Good luck!

It's on North little Santa Monica Blvd.. around near at Rodeo Dr.. but U might have to call the West Hollywood Salon first and get the number .. then u go from there.

Hi Torri!

When it comes to finding a good stylist, One that you can be comfortable with and one that you can trust, It's important to do alot of research as to who can do the best work for your desires for your hair in your area/state. A good stylist will be able to suggest what hair shades, styles & lengh that will do the most for you according to skin tone, shape of face etc. Also looking online n your search engine helps alot too. I am half Puerto Rican and have very very wavy & thick hair so I had to do this myself so I can relate to wanting to have someone I can trust and won't critisize my hair(one lady who I was going to complained that I had "Too much hair" Then she'd talk behind my back about it so I never went back to her) What state are you in? If you are in southern California or even near Beverly Hills, You may want to call Jonathan's Beverly Hills salon which is at:

9681 Wilshire Blvd.
Beverly Hills
and the phone # for that salon is:
1-310-273-9999

Maybe you can ask one of them if they can recommend someone in your area who is the very best in African-American hair styles. Good luck honey:)

I used to think the same thing about Revlon, Max Factor ... ect. How do you think they got their start? If you look at the credits on old tv shows like Leave it to Beaver and such you will find that the make up was done by these companies. They usually have two products lines, one for the consumer and a professional one.
gemduncan
Hi Everyone!

This is my first post and I absolutely loved the new hair style that Jason did for the waitress from the restaurant, Kristina. I was wondering if anyone had a better picture of her new hair style? Bravo doesn't seem to have a decent picture that I can take into my hair stylist.

Thanks in advance!
sheydan
It's true that Revlon and companies like that got their start as professional lines...then they thought that they could make more money by selling directly to the public. It's true that some of the companies have proffesional lines also....but where do these companies think theirbest interest is? MAking money or supporting professional stylists? Sebastian is one of the major contributors to Grocery store diversion. True professionals should use products that are manufactured by the originalmanufacturers/developers...Not sell outs. THink about it and do your homework to see who has your best intersed in mind.
canadian
I have the same problem and I've been at the same salon for 6 years I've built a little but not full yet the way I did it was try to get the phone before the others so that if a new potential calls you can book yourself first also if you rent a chair advertise offer 1/2 price cuts but be sure to put exp.date say three mths. if your a salary talk to your boss and maybe go half and half on a special with you only. also always carry your bus. cards and pass them out at bars, partys, etc.
good luck.

Yes, she's correct because Revlon has a new product line called Ulta which is a professional cosmetics line that is being use for "Blowout".
GlamGirl66
You know, I think that Revlon is a very good high quality make-up. Just look at how beautiful Halle Berry and the others on the Revlon commercials look in Revlon. I'd definetly say that Revlon is one of the better cosmetics out there that I would even trust using honestly.
nsb25
Well they are using revlon for their make-up too what is with that. I mean that is about the cheapest brand besides wet and wild. I use revlon on myself as an everyday type of thing, but when I am paying to get my make-up done I expect them to use something more professional and somewhat higher then something I can by in a drug store.
nsb25
I totally agree with you curlupanddye about the repremanding. When he was wispering in Brandon's ear yelling at him for what he has been doing was very unprofessional, but at the same time Brandon was being unprofessional when he was talking bad about Jonathan in front of his client and telling his client she needs to go tell Jonathan that he is just jealous of Brandon. That was just ridiculous.
justpushplay
yes I'm interested in the same haircut and would love a pic to take to my hairstylist

Hi everyone! This show is wonderful and so is this message board.

I too am looking to break into the salon and spa industry, but I'm looking to get involved on the business side. I have a great job now, but it's just not personnally fulfilling. I moved out to Southern CA (from GA) to explore this industry, and fortunately my firm transferred me out and allows me to work a reduced work schedule to explore and pursue my dreams. I spent some time going to Paul Mitchell the School (completed ~250 hours) to get some hands on experience, and then I decided to go on a LOA and take personal initiative to research several salons/spas in the area to get a different perspective, as well as going to a couple of industry events. I spent some time doing an internship with Fred Segal Beauty at their corporate office, which was an awesome experience. I am still exploring and would LOVE to find opportunities on the business side of the industry (either in operations and/or management, or any other possibilities).

It's a scary jump (I agree with BlueTurtle), but I love this business. I love the people (both tech/stylists, as well as diverse clientele), and the atmosphere and the creative energy and style that you find in the beauty industry. I love an industry that is focused on people and individuals, and part of the job is making people look and feel good and pampered. If anyone has any suggestions/tidbits of advice for me, I would love to hear them! It seems that info about these types of jobs travels by word of mouth rather than formal job postings. THANKS!
magghemay2
Jonathan needs to lighten up a little.I can see Brandon needs some real strict guidelines, and needs to be put in his place.....he is after all being paid to do what Jonathan wants.....but Jonathan has to bend a little to accept that not everyone is anal and totally uptight like he is.He hugs and schmoozes clients, and butt kisses like crazy....Brandon does the same thing, just a bit more funny and wild......Brandon needs to tame it down, and Jonathan needs to loosen up!......The show is awesome....Love the haircut that the waitress got....the guy that did it is a total brown nosin bum kisser.....but he can style well!
ILOVEYOU
Jason is honestly the best one on the show. He is a genius. He really knows how to transform a person. The show would not be the same without him.

Hey everyone!! I've noticed that a few people who are posting on here are involved in the hair/salon industry and had a few questions as a future student of a hairstyling school (class starts Sept). I am from a smallish town in Northern Ontario & haven't had much exposure to big salons, etc. But I do have a passion for everything hair related! I have tried everything you can think of with my hair, including shaving my head & 20" extensions (which I'm sporting now). Does anyone have any advice, or comments for someone like me who is moving to a bigger area (Greater Toronto Area to be exact) to persue a career in the industry? Anything would be appreciated! Thanks!
canadianstyly
I think that "scooping" clients is pretty low......getting to the phone first and claiming all new clients as your own creates mistrust and resentment in the salon. There must be a fair and equatable way to get your fair share of new clients.....after 6 years in the business, resorting to this tactic might tell you something......get new clients honestly, not buy running the fastest!
