What a shame you don't like asparagus! I grow them in my garden and I have discovered a wonderful new addition to the crudite platter - raw, baby asparagus.

I have GOT to try growing asparagus. I'm kind of afraid to try, since I live in a weird climate where it's possible to have frost in, say, MAY. I was under the impression for most of my life that I just loathed asparagus, until I ate a little steamed at a dinner party just to be polite. It was so wonderful that I had to restrain myself from scarfing down the entire platter. Apparently I only hate overcooked asparagus.
my_guy_ky
In the Rob M. episode, the fish chowder recipe called for 10 cups of blue crab stock. How do you get this? By boiling blue crabs in 10 c. water? This is the only thing keeping me from trying to make this.
And the homemade ravioli in the John Z. episode looked like alot of work.

Hi all! I live in Australia, and have realised in my travels that most the fashions they have in America usually turn up in Australia six months later. Please tell me some of the fashions you have over in the U.S so I can be ahead of the trend!

I just LOVED Jai and Thom's hair in the recent "Rob" episode. It was so silky and shiny! I've always noticed how great Carson's hair looks... and since I color and highlight too - I was hoping for suggestions to help my hair look as shiny as theirs without being made completely flat. ...Bravo Boss... ask the guys what shine product they used in that episode, Please? (Yes, Jai - it WAS just SO 'Liza'!) ...And if anyone else has a suggestion, I would greatly appreciate hearing! --De

Must have pointy stillettos. Must Must have them. I am guessing you already have those down under, but I won't wear anything else unless I positivly have to. (like in the gym) Make sure your jeans are too long, the bottom just hits the floor. Von Dutch was popular here, it is dying down, but if you guys are 6 months behind you will still be way ahead of the crowd. Just pick up a hat or two. You can never go wrong with a couple Juicy Couture tees and jeans. I have also seen several little places pop up with new statement tees. I had to pick up the "Ben's New Girlfriend" one the other day, but they also have "I Dated Ashton" and "I Partied with Colin" I would imagine that no one over there would have those either.
my_guy_ky
I've already become a "shopoholic". Too bad I'm too broke right now to be one in reality. So let's talk fashion.

Carson: I'm okay with him dressing preppy, it goes with that blond hair - blue eyes thing he has goin'. The flamboyant clothes work, too.

Jai: Again versatility in his case, so preppy works occasionally to mix it up a bit. He's the youngest and he's slim and cute and femme, so he can wear very flamboyant clothes. I would also love to see Jai dressed in some fuzzy, cuddly sweaters.

Ted: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! His stylish classics always work.

Thom: I haven't seen anything wrong with his look, except for the suit on the holiday episode.

Kyan: But Carson, please don't prep out Kyan. It's just not him. Occasionally a suit, like the one near the end of the James M. episode. Better yet, classics like jeans, button-up shirt and jean jacket. Casual cargos and a tee under a light jacket. But especially leather pants and muscle shirts! Show off those buff arms! Cavalli, DSquared, Keanan Duffty - anything rock 'n' roll! Oh, yeah, he really looks great with a bit of red!
<okay, my_guy_ky, settle down!>

I am trying to find a pants style that will flatter my boyfriend. After trying on what seemed like a million pairs with no success I decided to try to do some research. Unfortunately, I haven't found any web site that talks about how to select pants style based on body type. Any ideas? He's around 5'9", 195 (I think). The pants he wears now are (IMHO) too baggy in the rear. It doesn't help that he wears them high so his waist isn't defined at all. The he belts them tightly creating an even baggier effect. HELP ME!!!

I wish I knew. I just know that Carson says pleats are BAD BAD BAD. And of course that's all my husband wears. They actually aren't so bad on him, since he's very thin, but I'd like to get him to try something else. I'm sure he won't, but I can always hope!

Im looking for the answers to this as well. The chowder seems like a very healthy meal.

hey, this is my first post here. I can say that the show has made me more appreciative of the finer things in life. That i should take better care of myself and my presentation to others. In doing so, I feel great about myself.

I am a 28 y.o. guy getting married in May coming up. My fiancee and I picked out these tuxedos for myself and the ushers. I wanted to hear some of your opinions please What do you think of the tux in the following link?

<http://www.formalamerica.com/tux909.htm>

I have a short clean cut haircut, so I wouldn't look like the model. Comments?
FraggleChick86
I love the tux. It's not your traditional shape, but the cut is very flattering & the dark colors will give you a nice silouette (sp?) - very good choice.
IMO, you have nothing to worry about.
Dawnadid
Hi kids!!

I'm a new fan of the show, and just want to express how much I love it!

I notice alot of people are talking about skincare as an adult. I've dealt with mild or moderate acne through my life, and as a young adult, I find that my skin gets really dry and then turns to breaking out. I've heard the reason for this is actually the dead skin cells clumping together and then clogging pores (your own skin can be as big a problem as dirt -- believe it). Most people then jump on skin care products that have the maximum amount of medicine, but really, something milder, especially in the case of adult acne and dry skin, is more effective and won't continue to dry your face. Trying a simple astringent is best, but for a little extra boost, try out a salycilic acid treatment. Benzol peroxide is good, but it -is- peroxide, and is incredibly drying, so it's usually best left for teenagers.

Anyway, for a new topic... I just got myself a new jean jacket and the beast needs a quick breaking in. What's my best option for a pliable jacket in under a week?

Cheers!

Your best bet? Wash it, sleep in it, wash it again. It will still look new, but will feel broken in.

Give your husband a pair of flat fronts as a gift.
They look get with almost everything!
I am 6'1 and real slim.I gave all my pleated pants to the thrift store. I have gotten WAY TOO MANY COMPLEMENT on how I look now! It's all about the LOOK and the COMPLEMENTS!!!
He will look great!! Trust me!!

Hello RavinDave,

Do try to wear a tshirt tucked in and a button shirt untucked. Its amazing how great it looks!
GaBoi74
Wow, what a wonderful idea about the colgne! I have never thought of such. I am always on the go and just spray it on as I leave in the morning. Of course, I don't reek of it. LOL.

I am a total fan of QE! I love this show so much I would die if it ever went off air. LOL. Good suggestion about the contest.

Oh well, off to get ready to watch the 10:00 episode!

I know he was picked up by a publisher to do one sometime last year - I haven't heard when it was going to be available. Articles as late as March 20th don't list a release date I've found.

He's already written several books and was a contributing editor of "Esquire" magazine for several years. (His articles are available to read online.)

If I hear a release date - I'll let you know.

In the meantime, the Fab 5 have a book which pools their collective talents. It is in stores now. ("Queer Eye for the Straight Guy: The Fab 5's Guide to Looking Better, Cooking Better, Behaving Better, Living Better.")

Peace to you! --De

Wow... you're asking a VERY long-winded gal about the genesis of her name? It's weird and complicated. PREPARE TO BE BORED! LOL!

Quickly -- Paul Mitchell is some of the best available ANYWHERE... but sometimes your hair gets accustomed to the product, or build up occurs and you have to switch to a new thing. Go Nexxus or Redkin once in a while... but keep the PM as your mainstay. It's miraculous!

(De pants wildly with fear!)
Yup, I can say that now... I had my work published recently in an Anthology of American poets.
The echo of the Fab 5 saying "Live a little, take risks" during the Christmas update show, and all the times Thom was filmed saying, "Grow up," made me say... ok, I'll try.

The De (pronounced like DAY) comes from a pen name I adopted some 30 years ago as a LEEEEEETLE girl. I fell in love with the book, "Heidi", and her Aunt's name was Dete. (Day-Tay). I'd write poems and short stories and sign them that way in grade school.
My friends picked it up and would tease, "Here comes Dah Poet!" - Which later became a way I'd sign notes: DePoet.

My first steps out in cyberspace found a LOT of "DePoet"'s out there, so a couple of years ago, I changed to "DePoetic".

See? Aren't you sorry you asked???? LOL!

I go through the boards and read posters like TickTick and am humbled to realize how deteriorated my skills have become while sitting where I so long ago shelved them. (Yup, spelling and grammar being the first victims! See?)

Eh, bien...
Thanks for being interested enough to ask! LOL!

Haugjo, those are called Lack shelves and you can get them from Ikea. Here is a link to the shelves. If the link doesn't work, go to www.ikea.com and search for lack shelves.

http://www.ikea-usa.com/webapp/wcs/stores/...ats=10104*10172

I bought 2 for my bedroom after noticing them on QE and absolutely LOVE them.
FiliciaFanatic
Cool, thanks! I'd been wondering about those shelves, too -- they're definitely going on my wish list for when I get to redecorate.
raindog
Thanks for the link! They're very reasonably priced - now I'm going to have to go find an Ikea within a thousand miles of me!
celtic_wench
FYI on ordering the shelves over the Internet. The shipping was more than the shelves themselves. However, the nearest Ikea to me was nearly 500 miles away so it was worth the price of shipping not to have to drive.

Can't you just order them online and have them shipped? I sure hope so, because I don't think there's an Ikea store anywhere within 200 miles of here.

I could, but I was thinking of the shipping costs. And as I see from a noter above, they're apparently high. BUT, I looked at the location thing and the closest one to me is Baltimore. And I'm a long, long, long way from Baltimore. Like, 9 hours or so. There's one coming to Atlanta, I see, which is only maybe 5 hours. No wonder I've never been to an Ikea!

My mother was an English teacher - and would, quite frankly, be appalled with my spelling and synatx of late.

I have had so many employers, co-workers, aquaintances and friends with poor language skills - that I've simply fallen into step with all the other lemmings. (WOW, that sounded arrogant! Sheesh!) ...But it's true. I made a LOT of unintended "enemies" with co-workers while in college - who thought that I "thought I was better than them" because of the way I spoke.

While I haven't a clue what 'text speak' notes like IMHO, LMAO, etc. mean... I had ceased using my vocabulary muscles so long ago that I might as well have been speaking in 'text speech'. You, TickTick, and others have inspired me to do as Thom suggests - "GROW UP"!

...And any time you have a question - feel free to ask. Please be patient with my long winded replies... dis lil' gal's jes learnin' how 2 talk agin!

I was at the drug store Saturday, in the skin-care aisle, and I saw one of those styptic doo-dads. It was hanging off of the shelf with the razors and shaving creams.

When I saw this Hip Tip, I thought Carson manages to look femme even when doing something as manly as shaving his face. "Owww!". When Kyan was talking, all I heard was, "Put down the toilet paper, blah, blah, blah, styptic yadda yadda..." Whatever, handsome. Just hurry up and frisk me already.

I have a real problem with my skin. I regularly break out in spots despite the fact a have a good skincare routine. I was wondering if anyone knew a decent product that will firmly zap those zits and blemishes. I have tried most Clearsil, Oxy and Clean & Clear products and nothing seems to work. Hey De, I use Charles Worthington Glossing Spray and my hair is still full of volume. I use the whole Charles Worthington Dream hair routine and my hair has never been so easy to manage. I have really frizzy, wavy hair and since I've been using his products, my hair has looked much better and is much easier to stlye. I second this sentiment. I'll admit, I've gone as far as correcting my friends' grammar before - although I am grateful that they chalk it up to just another idiosyncrity (sp???) instead of feeling threatened.

However, I will go out on a limb & say that many kids of my generation are NOT being taught grammar _at_all_ anymore. In my freshmen English class, there were kids who did not know exactly what a noun or a verb was - forget adverbs & prepositions. Maybe I'm a little spoiled due to my private school rearing, but...doesn't that make you ill?

My local library used to have a big, glossy book by Charles Worthington. He seems like a great guy. Kinda cute, too, and I loved his advice. I really need to buy that book to keep around as reference.
Kyan's hair advice in the Queer Eye book is alright, but more beneficial for guys, and not many of these types of "product" that he recommends is good for fine, oily hair like mine. I did glean alot from his skincare advice. And with such gorgeous photos of Ky, I have even one more "use" for his chapter.

Awww, thanks for the snaps, De. I would like a Hip Tip from you, however. I asked everyone this once before, but I could not find exactly what I wanted in the "FAQ" as was advised. You see, I noticed on another board (forgot whether it was General or Fan Forum) today, you wrote a post that quoted more than one person (all in your one post). How did you do that? I hope you can understand my question because I'm not sure how else to word it. I've only seen about three or so people on here do that and I've tried everything, but to no avail. Not that I personally have the need to do so anytime soon, but when something baffles me like that, I like to try to get to the bottom of it. *Damn you, fruit smoothies!*

I had a girl at work find out I was a college grad - and actually begin a campaign with my boss to get me fired! My boss told me not to worry... that "A" did that with everyone she met who has higher education under their belt!

Creepy, huh?

Well... I'm outta my non-spell-check-friendly right mind... and my left brain is officially overloaded... I'm going to BED!!!

(You know, Einstein couldn't do simple math... maybe that gives us all something to aspire to... {come back TickTick, please?})

At first I was convinced that Princess Tick had purely grown
weary of us and moved on; but now I do believe that he's not
lurking- as he seems unable to refrain from vociferous
affront regarding Butchery of the English Language. Also, I
believe he would have felt compelled to respond to TTB's
eloquent tribute to Thom Filicia, although his appreciation
might have been tempered by his customary alarm concerning
female appreciation of gay men that includes an erotic
component.

Now, thankfully, I do not speak the way I scribble, and more
to the point of this thread, at work, I speak as little as
possible in front of clients. I find that I get a much more
sympathetic response from a nod and a smile. And if I do
speak- I find that hesitation every few words garners a
far more positive response than speaking in my natural
cadence. Is it manipulative? Sure, but so is chatting up
a prospective client.

Most of us, and I include myself, function inside of what
I visualise as a buffering bubble of self-concept, and
react negatively to challengers who brandish long sharp
needles and threaten our bubble. The trick to getting on
with strangers seems to be to interpret visual cues as to
the nature of how they see themselves, and to communicate
in a way that assumes that reality to be valid.

If a man is wearing clothing more formal than the situation
warrants- a nod and a smile. If a man is making an effort
to look 'hip'- eye contact and hesitation between words. If
a man is wearing a sports jersey or any other defensive garb
my boss should do all the talking. Funny, but it seems men
who are dressed terribly, mismatched and out of date, are
the ones I do best in honest communication with at work. I
think it is because they have not bothered to construct such
an elaborate bubble.

P.S. I found it a great challenge just to graduate High
School, but I love your phrase 'higher education
under the belt..' because, by that definition, I
have higher education as well! he he........

P.S. P.S. I don't have the patience to watch for Carson
in the Pepperidge Farm advert, but I did buy
4 - 9packs of snacksize fish crackers. I think
the endorsement is perfect for him! And if I
don't use one a day- I'm not above sharing with
the ducks. Geese are too pushy and ducks mate
for life I've heard. SWEET! notevayas .......
