I use an overall moisturizer in my face. Is it OK? If not, why?

Thanks for answers.

Heya!
I need some advice on interior design, I'm getting a new bedroom in about a month, and I can't decide on a colourscheme. It's going to be a big room with polished floorboards, and I want to entertain a lot. If anyone has any Thom-esque ideas, please let me know.

10 to 15 days after I wax my shoulders and back, ingrown hairs cause pimples in the waxed area. Is there anything I can do prevent it.

TTB, Darlin' - thanks for this info. When my folks came to stay with me I made mom stand here and read this. She is diabetic - drinks caffine laden diet soda like water - and had been experiencing numbness and pain for a couple years now.

You may be savin' lives, hon, one Hip Tip at a time.

I must say, I'd like to see Kyan use more products that can be found at Sally Beauty Supply. While we don't carry the salon brands such as Paul Mitchell and Aveda, we do carry comparable brands that for the most part(and I say for the most part because some people just have to have that 18 dollar bottle of shampoo)are wonderful and do an incredible job.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that if you're looking for something a bit more affordable than that 18 dollar bottle of Paul Mitchell, then shop at Sally's. I know I probably sound like a bad advertisement, but I can't help it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*shrugs* just my two cents though, hope my points make sense:)

This is good info, Mandilion. I go to Sally's to get my supplies for perms - they had the tcb tub of perm on sale for only 4 something, I was most happy! With as much perm as it takes to straighten my daughter's hair and as little money as I usually have, I LOVE Sally's prices!
Mandilion
I have a bathroom full of product from work, lol I could open my own mini store!

I'm thinking of sending it to Kyan, but for all I know, maybe he has tried a lot of the stuff, but didn't like it. *shrugs*

I'd have to see the arcitecture of the room. But really, you're the most capable to make these decisions. What colors do you like? What style? Do you like flowery, Victorian things, or sleek, modern things, or something else entirely, or a mix of styles?

I'd suggest Thom's technique -- go into your closet or just your whole bedroom and pick out three favorite things, anything at all, pictures, figurines, shirts, whatever. Look at those and try to figure out what traits they have -- are they all in a certain color family? Do they all have stripes? Are they all Asian-influenced? Or are they each different, and if so, how can you incorporate the different traits that make you like these items into your new room?

I'm not really an expert in this field, but my gut reaction is to tell you to see a dermatologist about this; I'm not sure I can explain why, (and I'm not a hypochondriac, I promise), but it seems like even the littlest things with our bodies may be caused by a much bigger picture.

However, the reason they're ingrown may be b/c the hair is being pulled too short, yet not completely out at the same time. I would either a) start having it professionally done or cool.gif start shaving; there's a razor Kyan reccomends for people who have ingrown hair problems - it would be on the Rob M. section of the grooming hints & tips.

On the re-run of John Z. last night - Kyan said regular exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hair and pimples. (For 'regular' read: Once a week)
Try an apricot scrub on a good loofa shower brush and see if that helps.

Peace and healthy skin to you! --De

Thanks for the feedback Fraggle! I have been going to a professional hair remover at an upscale salon for several years and thought this was a common reaction as the hair grows back. I may need to try another salon.

**De tumbles into the room, stumbles and falls SPLAT on her face!!!!**

HAPPY DUDE!!! SHEESH! This task has REALLY KICKED MY BUTT!

I've surfed the internet until I'm SICK!... BUT I learned a lot, so I have to thank you for the assignment.

I say again - for the style of your haircut, YOU need to GO to a men's Salon and actually speak with a professional to help design the style to best suit your head shape, texture and lifestyle. That said... My personal preference would be a medium length cut and never the super short and tight or mullet long.
I found a website that acts as a stagering resource for men's issues:

http://www.askmen.com/ ...The specific page that discusses men's hairstyles is:

http://www.askmen.com/fashion/trends_60/78...ashion_men.html

As a woman, I can't help you with appropriate hair products... maybe you'll find good suggestions at www.askmen.com or back in the beginning pages of this HipTip thread.

(No - BravoTV won't let it link, you'll have to cut and paste it into your browser.)

This website has an AMAZING... no make that STAGGERING amount of resources for men - INCLUDING a message board where you can ask questions just like yours here.

Now for color of clothes - I'm STILL serious about you getting the color wheel. Point the wheel to your haircolor - and ALL the colors that the wheel page covers up and does NOT let you see - stay away from them as much as you can.
My personal opinion as a current strawberry blonde (Light red hair)... For YOU who has hazel eyes - you will look dayum good in blues, greens, browns, pure reds, and all the dusky fall tones of olive, deep re-violet, dark orange, rust, and navy. Keep navy and black as your powersuit choices - but as a red head - color will be your friend.

Now for clothing styles... LAWD did I find some resources... it was hard to mow through.

I've narrowed my search parameters to the one site you can never go wrong at: JC Pennys. (Don't jump me gals... I'm sticking to affordable classic looks.)
Wander around the men's clothes at:
http://www.jcpenny.com

For glimpses at the cutting edge:
http://www.yoox.com/us/index.asp?gender=U

I - like most women - are suckers for well dressed men.
Personally - I loathe T-shirts and muscle shirts. I'm a chick who drools over a guy in stylin' layers. Even in the blistering heat of summer, a guy with linen pants/board shorts, a tank top worn under an unbuttoned short-sleeved gausy linen shirt and leather sandals just lights my imagination.
You're young, tho' right? Stick to a dressy but sporty/casual look. Avoid the super sloppy loose fitting clothes - and when picking a T-shirt with logo - go with classy and avoid the vulgar or dumb. Rock bands are cool - I just hate the "I'm with Stupid" variety.
Get some casual sportswear into your wardrobe.
While at www.yoox.com: note I prefer Emporio Armani and Roberto Cavali to the others. I wish it listed Polo Ralph Lauren... That's my favorite designer for men. JC Pennys carries Polo and its knockoffs.

Dress well. Be confident in yourself. Pick things that occasionally make you laugh and feel outgoing. Have fun and live it up, babe! You're only young once!

Peace! I hope this helped! --De

I have a humble suggestion to make to my favorite TV show:
I would like Jai to talk a little more about how to face a job situation, for example, how to address your boss about a salary raise, or how to face a job interview, etc.

BravoBoardBoss, could you please make this suggestion get to the Fab 5? Thanks indeed and best regards from Argentina.

Hmmmm....how about a square platform and on top, an area rug to cover it (or not) then 3 small tables of various heights. On the tables you could place plants or candles

Just a note for anyone looking for "Hope in a Jar". It's from the "Philosophy" line of treatments. It's also very hard to find in retail. QVC sells it. I've been using this line for a number of years and can honestly say that all of the products are great.

In a recent episode, Kyan gave a hint on how to file your fingernails. He said to start in the middle and file to the outside. I beg to differ with him. You should always start at the outer edge and work your emery board toward the center of your nail. Doing it the other way will cause splits. Always use an emery board, (preferably one with a coarser grid on one side to file with and a finer grid on the other side for smoothing) never a metal file. I ought to know, I've been a hairdresser for over 30 years and have done thousands of manicures. Keep up the good work guys. I love your show.

Hey sweetie! Scroll up to the top of the page here. I haven't been there for a while - but I think it's on the Hints and Tips board. Once there, you have to select the episode, and then select "Food and wine Conoisseur" and the recipes are there. Other wise - check the threads of the straight guys. So many folks ask, that some of the gang has already posted the recipe from the specific epi on their thread.

Sorry, sweetie! I was so caught up in the redheadded issue, I missed this.

The ONLY reason I personally wouldn't use a single type of all over moisturizer - is if you have combination skin. Heavy acne and oiliness across the forehead and nose in combination with very dry cheeks needs specific products to deal with specific areas. Become a label reader in the face products section. Which product best addresses you specific needs?

If your skin is farely even - an all over moisturizer should be cool.

Peace to you - and hope to see you around more! --De

P.S. Has anyone noticed the commercials that Gillette and Schick are coming out with men's facial care lines since QE?

I REALLY liked TTB's suggestion! I've searched for good sites with pictures - and have come up frustrated. Sorry. I wish Thom's website at: http://www.thomfilicia.com/ was running - but alas, we still wait.

My favorite magazine that delt with large open spaces is: Metropolitan Home. ...But their website was unreachable today. Thom says "Know your architecture." Try researching that direction. Maybe go to a local bookstore and check out home interior magazines to get ideas.

I have a wonderful boyfriend who I believe is very handsome and sexy. He doesn't think that. He has hair that is dark blonde and just above his shoulders. My family always makes comments on how they can't see his face because of the hair. People mistake him for a woman sometimes. Will is very handsome and I love his hair, but I think that maybe he should cut it shorter so he could maybe feel better and show off his wonderful face. I have suggested it, but he says things like I have a cow lick, My face is too round, I will look like a kid instead of 22, etc. It's old. He has beautiful green eyes and is wonderful looking. He wears glasses and I think he can't wear contacts. I, personally, would like to not have to worry about his hair getting in my face when we are being intimate. Any advice on getting him to cut his hair or anything else.

I went into one of those bath and body stores yesterday and asked for a face moisturizer that had spf and grapeseed extract, and the first thing I got asked was first, if it was for me, and second, if I watched QE. I was pretty surprised.

Then I asked if they had pre-shave oil, and again the store clerk told me that all the QE watchers asked for it, but they didn't carry it!

Anyway, I asked this in the Rob M Forum, but if nobody catches it, Does anybody have any tips for accent line painting? Any ideas?

As a life-long apartment person I have always tried to purchase furniture and decorative items that would be adaptable to any future living space. Other than new window hardware or bathroom linens/accessories to harmonize with the tile, I seldom have had to make large purchases whenever I have moved.

I used to host small dinner parties frequently. As I grow older ((groan)), I find myself taking friends out to dinner rather than the hassle of entertaining at home. No longer is it necessary to have a formal dining area/room.

NEVER SAY NEVER!

Who knows what changes our life styles will make in the future? I compromised. I said, "Goodbye" to my large parson's table and "Hello" to a simple, gate-leg, drop leaf, shaker syle table in a warm, medium hued wood color that harmonizes with any decorating style. I placed it against a wall, flanked by two arm chairs that look "at home" in a living room and yet had the support and comfort one needs if the table might ever be used for dining.

At my local antique mall I found a pair of reasonably priced bookends and several books with interesting bindings that now grace the center of the table. Voila! I have a wonderful table desk. If I need more room for whatever I'm working on, I can lift one of the leaves and when finished, let it drop.

The beauty is while my needs are met for the present, I have left my options open should I ever have the occasion to entertain guests in the future.

Good Luck on your own project!

Greetings and welcome to the forum, hon. I hope you drop in and visit with us often.

Hon - for YOU the issue is his hair.

For HIM the issue is self esteem.

Trying to cut his hair is going to be a focus of "trying to change him" - at least to him. Men who change for their girlfriends, end up resenting their girlfriends.

You need to try and get to the root issue of his self esteem. What is he holding on to in his background that makes him believe he isn't attractive? The issues may be small and easily overcome. The issues may be so deep that he needs counselling. At this point - even you may not know.

Someone once said "it takes five positive reinforcements to overcome one negative."

Begin by demonstrating to him that you accept him AS HE IS. The more you reinforce he is safe with you and can trust you, and that you are happy with who he is and how he looks - the more comfortable he will be at coming out of hiding behind the hair.

Meanwhile - you may want to get him some cool masculine ponytail bands. There are some seriously cool ones with Celtic Weaves which look stellar. That'll at least keep his hair back for you.

Be - above all things - accepting and patient.

Peace in your world today, hon! --De

Well... I'm NOT an interior designer... nor anywhere close to Thom in aesthetic... but here goes...
Here in the states - Thom has a commercial out for an interior design chain called "Pier 1". In the commercial he suggests taking your five favorite outfits and really looking at them. Is there a favorite color? Is the style chic or comfy? Take clues from your already established sence of style and move from there.

Wooden floors can handle any color palate you throw at them. Don't be afraid to mix textures and colors. Remember Thom in that all plaid Hip Tip? Contrast is better than all matching.
Did you read my suggestions to happydude about the use of the color wheel? This would help here too. It would keep you from putting clashing colors that would be headachey and clashing contrast in your room.

Remember - your bedroom should be your sanctuary.

I wish I were an interior designer so I could suggest more.

I don't remember Thom decorating any brick walls apart from Butch but we have a brick wall in the loungeroom so here is my advice on how to style it.

To balance out the dark red tones of the brick & lighten up the room, we painted the room a sunny lemon yellow with a white ceiling. We then put a wooden mantle across the whole wall which is quite useless, but looks pretty good. To finish it up, we hung a large beach scene painting with sandunes a similar colour to the walls.

I hope this helped, let me know what you think of my budding interior design skills, as I am considering a career in the feild.

Cheers, ~Shelley~

Not that I can remember - but something I do have a lot of.

If you plan to hang pictures - you need a ceramic drill bit to make the holes and then a masonry anchor to put into the hole for the hook or spike. Ask at your local hardware store. Remember - the holes you plant in brick/concrete are permenant - so make sure they're where you REALLY want them.
You can put them near the ceiling and run wire down to the level you want to hang the painting... but I personally dislike that look.
Be careful about putting anchors into the mortar. Your hardware guy should be able to advise you. The mortar isn't fired and therefore is "softer" when drilling. Be careful and wear safety goggles!

Peace and good luck to you! --De

Hello, I'm new to this board, and I'm in need of advice. I'm 16 years old and I'm going to be moving soon into a long-term house, so i'll be remodeling my room.

The problem is, I want to get a gothic/medievil theme, with chains and dragons and such, so I want to paint my walls black. My parents won't let me get black for my walls, even for just one wall.

Can someone tell me what would be a good color to go with the theme? A few types of dark would be acceptable, like a dark red, but they won't allow black.

Thanks.

How about a rich, dark purple ... or any other "jewel tone" color. For accessories check out Design Toscano. They have all kinds of goodies guaranteed to transform your room into your castle.

Greetings and welcome to the forum Jay.
Some of the coolest midieval pictures I ever saw are actually found on an e-card site.
http://www.angeleyes2.com/

You're 16... in the next 4 years, your interests may swing wildly... so avoiding a paint job that would have to be re-done with each change in taste is a good idea.

Look over the site I suggested in the midieval, dragon and fantasy sections, or your own fave pics to find something whose colors spark your imagination.

A deep midnight blue or navy on one wall would make that end of the room seem to recede. Consider the type of art you want to display and the furniture. You'll want to be able to easily change the art out with changing moods and the furniture to match all possibilities no matter what.

If you stick to solid color fabrics - your eye will be drawn to the fantastic fantasy art. If you do murals on the walls - the eye will be drawn there. If the whole room is a clutter of patterns and pics on the bedspread, wall, floor and ceiling - your eye - and your friend's eyes won't be able to rest and the room will always "feel" just the tiniest bit uncomfortable. Remember - Your bedroom is your sanctuary. There will be times you'll need to feel rested there.

Our first instinct with things we love is to drown ourselves in them. That's also how many of us get burned out and tired of things. Just keep the basics of the room simple. Make your theme an addition to the basics.

Cool colors: Comfortable room. Hot colors: active room.

Peace and again, welcome to the forum! Good luck! --De
celtic_wench
Jay, I have a celtic/medieval theme in my room. I painted my walls a deep royal blue. It still gives you color but the darkness I think you are looking for.

Speaking from experience, painting a dark color over light is a pain in the you-know-what. I made the mistake of not priming first and I had to paint 4 coats on one of the walls, 3 coats on the other 3. Talk to the person at the hardware/paint store to get some good advice. They can give you some good tips.

Good luck.

Finding quality unscented products can be quite a challenge for the fragrance-senstive among us. I can't say how much money I've lost trying products whose fragrance that I thought I could tolerate only to give up several sneezing fits later.

Hair conditioners were the worst until I finally found one by Aveda but they tell me its being discontinued!!! Can anyone recommend a good fragrance-free hair conditioner for dry or chemically-treated hair?

Darned parents. I wanted to paint my walls purple when I was your age, and mine wouldn't let me either. My walls had wood paneling and they used that as an excuse. Naturally, once I left home they painted the paneling themselves, in a very weird mauve color.

If I were you, I'd chose purple. Dark purple. That could be quite medieval. And I'm not just saying that in order to live vicariously through your walls.

Greetings and welcome to the forum sweetie! I totally understand the need for unscented products. I'll swing by my favorite hair care spot on the way home and see what I can find. (I'm off to run around the city, now!)

Hope to see you visit often! Peace and grace to you! --De

Guys,
I have recently been introduced to the "Queer Eye" world. Let me tell you it is great. Through watching the shows and reading many of the posts on the boards I have determined that I am not using the correct skin care regiment. I am 21 and am still having mild to moderate acne breakouts. I have tried a lot of things but so far to nothing has worked. I think that this is because I am not using a system that is designed for my skin type. So, here is my question. How can you tell what kind of skin you have? (Oily, dry, moderate, etc.) I know that this is probably a no brainer for most of you. Hey, it may even have been answered in a post that I missed. Thanks for the help. It is good to know how much of a positive influence five perfect strabgers can have on the world.

I am creating my own Jungle Theme room based on the wonderful Tiki Room that Thom created for Kevin in episode 118. But I am having trouble locating a source for the 1" - 2" Bamboo poles that Thom used. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Greetings and welcome to djlc0402 and NDanger!!
I'm scrambling a bit these days - but I'll see what I can scope out for you and come back.

Meanwhile - ND, make sure and check the links at the top of the page and your answer may be there.

djlc - get a piece of kleenex, separate it to just one sheet - and midday carefully press the whole thing to your face. If you have oil across the forehead, nose and chin, this is called a T-zone problem. If it's dry all over - you have normal to dry skin. If it's oily all over - oily skin.

Scroll back to a Question from Star 86 where I'm talking about non-comodogenic and non-acnegenic products. (I forget where it is.) Meanwhile - let me know if you have the T-zone combination skin, etc... and I'll see what I can find.

Peace and welcome to the forum! I hope to see you guys around often! --De

Babe.
Just so you know I REALLY AM working on the prob? 150 feet of hair care isle and I scribbled down as many web site addresses as I could muster before I had to go talk to some investigative types. Maybe you could join me in contacting these manufacturers and asking if they carry a hypo allergenic - fragrance free line.

Your best bet? Pure Hair from the Pure Shop by ARTec. They have an organic product line with no artificially added fragrance or color - but they use essential oils - so there IS scent. www.artecworldwide.com
